Children running three-legged race in historic village.

4th of July

To celebrate the semiquincentennial in 2026, two 45 minute concerts will be added to the event in partnership with the Thornapple Arts Council, and supported by funding from the Michigan Arts and Culture Council. Both concerts will feature folk music that is historic, or reminiscent of, Revolution era tunes.

During lunch (12:15-1pm), Michigan-based Ben Traverse will provide listeners with an overview of old time music. After the games, Chris Vallillo returns to HCP to perform The Power of Song in Democracy on the steps of Mainstreet under the spreading oak (3:30-4:15pm).

A flag raising ceremony featuring representatives from all five military branches and a presentation by the Lawrence J. Bauer American Legion Post takes place in front of the Upjohn House at noon. Old-fashioned games will be held from 1-2:30 pm on the village green with sack races, eating contests, hay bale throwing, and more! Ribbons are awarded to all winners.

Bring a pie for the auction! Many talented bakers will showcase their skills as they vie for the honor to be named 2026 grand champion during the annual silent pie auction. Pies that do not have to be refrigerated are preferred, baking dishes will not be returned. HCP event passes and merchandise will be awarded to the highest bidding pie baker. Proceeds benefit HCP’s special event fund.

A BBQ Buffet, sponsored by the Hastings American Legion, is available from 12:30 – 4 pm. Cost for ages 13+ is $9; ages 5-12 is $6 per person, and children under 4 eat free. A portion of the proceeds support the local American Legion.

Come early or stay late and enjoy the beach, fishing, picnic area, hiking trails or boat launch. The Historic Village is also open for self-guided tours between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. HCP does not provide fireworks in the evening.
